Compositing a Spaceship 3/5: Planar Tracker & Paint

Compositing a Spaceship 3/5: Planar Tracker & Paint

This 3rd part of the tutorial series is all about the backplate. Some simple paint and planar tracking enhances the scene.

You will use your preferred paint and photo editing application (Photoshop, GIMP, Krita, Painter, …) to create a patch of dusty, burned field as the landing site (or crash site) of the spaceship.

A painted patch in the correct perspective on a single frame is enough. The planar tracker will give you the planar transform tool to move it across the timeline in the correct perspective.

Below is Part 3 of the tutorial. Here’s the plan for the overall project and the next upcoming tutorials:

  1. Model import
  2. 3D camera tracking, lighting, and animation
  3. Paintwork and planar tracking (this tutorial)
  4. Multi-pass compositing
  5. Finishing touches

To get the footage and all exercise files and solution files, download the package from part 1 of this tutorial series.
