Unleash the full power of the Text+ tool and create advanced title effects with Shading Layers, Font options, and Modifiers. A single Fusion tool offers plenty of options and flexibility when building your titles, lower thirds, callouts, and more. In this tutorial, we look at:
Shading Layers
Shading layers allow you to create underlines, outlines, boxes, glow effects, and even reflections—all while keeping your text fully editable in one place. Using multiple shading layers, you can apply different effects to individual elements of the text, such as glowing edges or background boxes, which can be animated and styled independently.
Fonts
Fonts are more than just letters—they are design elements that can transform your motion graphics. Choosing the right font can make or break your project. Start by picking fonts that offer multiple style options beyond “regular”, “bold”, and “italic”. This allows you to create different designs with good contrast within one text element while easily maintaining a cohesive design.
Alternatively, use font pairs—complementary fonts designed to work together. A classic combo is a serif and a sans-serif font. Here one font is clean and modern while the other adds a touch of elegance.
Character-Level Styling
Modifiers in Fusion offer even more control over your text animations. The character-level styling modifier allows you to individually style and animate characters within a text block. This can be particularly useful for creating custom titles where certain characters need to stand out with different fonts, colors, or positions.
Character Level Styling can also be animated, or you can separate different elements for animation into their own text+ nodes and use Fusion’s full toolset to create new animations.
