Build a quality depth map in Fusion. Create depth-based light effects, depth of field, fog, and more. Free Macro included.
A depth map is a greyscale image that contains information about the distance each pixel has from the camera. 3D render engines can output a depth map as an additional technical channel (Z-Channel) together with the typical RGBA image. But you can also approximate depth channels for live-action footage.
In this tutorial, you learn about how to create and manipulate a depth map from live action footage and how to apply it for different effects.
Depth Map Adjustment Macro
DaVinci Resolve and Fusion Studio offer a built-in depth map tool. Since this tool requires heavy computations to calculate the depth map, it makes sense to separate out the generation of the depth map from typical post-processing tasks. The macro included in this tutorial package allows you to do just that:
To install it, you should:
- Download and unzip the file.
- Drag the file DepthMapAdjustment.setting into the Fusion Flow graph to test the tool.
- To make it accessible as a macro, right-click and save the settings file in the Fusion Macro folder. (Find it one level up from the Settings Folder):
